Switching careers may offer benefits during divorce

by | Mar 28, 2019 | Divorce |

The dissolution of a marriage can no doubt have a major impact on an individual’s life and emotional well-being. For this reason, some individuals may look down on the idea of starting a brand-new career while going through the divorce process. However, jumping into a new job field may be a wise move for some divorcing spouses in Pennsylvania.

One reason why people may choose to switch careers during divorce is that they prefer jobs that are more family friendly. For instance, they want jobs that will give them the flexibility they need to take their children to the doctor. In some situations, people simply want to get home in a timely fashion for their children.

Switching jobs does come with some challenges, though. For instance, it may be difficult for people to balance the demands of a new job with the demands of divorce negotiations. In addition, changing jobs may make the marital dissolution process longer. This is because the divorce attorneys will need more time to examine the two spouses’ financial situations so that they know how to approach such matters as child and spousal support.

The good news is that whether individuals decide to change jobs or to remain in their current jobs during divorce, an attorney can help them to make expedient financial decisions each step of the way. These decisions may include pursuing a certain spousal support amount or seeking the fair distribution of marital assets, for instance. A family law attorney in Pennsylvania will strive to ensure that his or her client’s rights are protected during each stage of the divorce proceeding.
